WEBSITE INFORMATION
Cookie Policy
This policy explains cookies and similar browser technologies used in connection with the Harry Shaw Business Computers website. Read it alongside our Privacy Policy for information about personal data.
1. What cookies and similar technologies are
Cookies are small pieces of information a website or service stores on your device. A session cookie is normally removed when the browsing session ends. A persistent cookie remains until its expiry or until you delete it. Similar technologies include local storage and scripts that access information on a device.
First-party cookies relate to the website you visit. Third-party cookies relate to another provider, for example a service embedded in a page. Their purpose matters as well as who sets them.
2. Enquiry-form security: Google reCAPTCHA
Our Contact Us page loads Google reCAPTCHA to help detect automated abuse of the enquiry form. The service connects to Google and uses technical information and interaction signals for risk analysis.
Google identifies _GRECAPTCHA as a cookie set when reCAPTCHA executes for that risk analysis. It is managed by Google. Google's documentation also warns that using the google.com domain may involve other cookies associated with that domain. Cookies available to Google can depend on your browser settings and existing interactions with Google services.
For Google's explanations, see its reCAPTCHA cookie information, cookie policy and privacy policy. These explain the provider's practices; they are separate from our website policies.
3. Website administration
The website uses WordPress. Its sign-in and administration functions use cookies to authenticate authorised administrators and remember relevant settings. These administrative functions are separate from the public enquiry service. You do not need to create an account to browse the website or send an enquiry.
4. Analytics, advertising and other services
Google Analytics is not currently active. We plan to connect Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console through Site Kit at go-live. The planned Analytics service would help us measure traffic, understand how pages are used and improve the website. Search Console provides search-performance reporting and does not itself require an Analytics cookie on visitors' devices.
There are no advertising pixels or marketing subscription widgets on this website. Customer review text and technology logos are displayed as page content, rather than through an embedded reviews platform.
Planned Analytics cookies, not an active inventory
Google documents the following first-party cookies for its recommended Analytics implementation. They are proposed cookies, not cookies independently verified as currently set by this website:
- _ga: distinguishes browsers/users for measurement. Google's documented default expiry is two years.
- _ga_<container-id>: persists session state. Google's documented default expiry is two years; the actual suffix depends on the configured property.
These are provider defaults, not confirmed Harry Shaw settings. Cookie expiry can be configured differently, may be renewed on use and can be limited by browsers. We will update the inventory with the actual names, purposes and durations when the service is configured. Cookie lifetimes do not describe how long Google Analytics retains report or event information.
Analytics cookies are optional for our website and are separate from technologies needed for essential security or administration. Our planned setup will seek consent before loading Analytics or setting its cookies. Refusing Analytics will not prevent you from browsing or contacting us.
For provider information, see Google's Analytics cookie documentation and how Google uses information from partner websites.
The remote support download is an external link, rather than an embedded remote-support session. If you follow that link or another external link, the destination provider's own cookie and privacy information applies.
5. Managing cookies and browser storage
This website does not currently provide an on-site cookie-preference panel. Continuing to browse is not a request for consent to advertising or other non-exempt tracking.
At go-live we intend to introduce a cookie-consent mechanism before enabling Analytics. Once implemented, it will offer Accept, Reject non-essential cookies and Manage Preferences options. Analytics will be optional and off until accepted. You will be able to reopen the preference control to change or withdraw consent as easily as you gave it. Withdrawal will stop future consent-based Analytics collection, without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing. These controls are planned and are not yet active.
You can use your browser's privacy settings to review and delete stored cookies, restrict third-party cookies or block cookies. Look for the privacy, site data or cookies controls in your browser's help. Blocking technologies used by reCAPTCHA or website administration may prevent those functions from working correctly.
If you prefer not to use the online enquiry form, contact us directly by email or telephone. Browser controls are not a substitute for any consent the website operator is required to obtain.
